November 3rd one of our founding TCDF Friends and Dutch cycling enthusiast Herman Kasper began his most meaningful bike journey yet: cycling from Hanoi, Vietnam to the TCDF campus in Paksong, Thailand. Herman had the idea to embark on this 3500 Km journey to celebrate TCDF’s 20 years of creating brighter futures for the underprivileged children of rural Thailand. This inspiring fundraising initiative combines his love of cycling and his passion for helping support the education and healthcare of Thailand’s youth to provide them the productive future lives they deserve.

Celebrating 20 years TCDF
In the coming months, we invite you to join us at any of our 20th anniversary events. On September 27th we will host a gathering of all Founding Friends and Goodwill Ambassadors in the Netherlands… where it all began with the dreams of Rosalie Tieges and Ingrid van der Straaten in 2004. This will be the official launch of the Bike4Kids initiative and Ride. Then on December 21st, we’ll celebrate our 20 years of impacting Thailand’s children right here on our campus in Paksong. Children, parents, teachers and the entire TCDF community are invited to joyously celebrate our combined achievements in improving the lives, communities and the future possibilities for every child in Thailand.

For 20 years, it has been the generosity of friends’ fundraising efforts, like Herman’s Bike journey, that continue to be a true lifeline for TCDF, especially in the aftermath of the pandemic. For 3 years starting in 2020 our Forest School campus in Paksong was closed, with a full loss of income and no volunteers. At the same time, there was a desperate and dramatic surge in children in need of our services. Instead of supporting 89 children pre-pandemic, our caseload grew to 521!
It is our loyal friends like Herman, willing to go the extra mile and offer the extra dollar, that have kept futures of possibility alive for these children. As we look forward to our next 20 years, we are always profoundly moved by the unwavering support of volunteers, family and friends of TCDF.
Bike 4 Kids is a perfect example of how the TCDF dream to make a difference in children’s lives continues to be sustained through your friendship, dedication, and generosity.
